Important message from the practice

Following the announcement of the closure of Springmead Surgery, Ariel Healthcare (formerly Essex House and Tawstock Medical Centres) are working in collaboration with NHS Somerset and Springmead to ensure the best possible care to Chard and the surrounding areas.Whilst we are working to put plans in place, we would ask for your support in the following areas;

We are currently working to automatically transfer patients as part of the closure.

Please do not register at Ariel, or any other practice, if you are a currently patient of Springmead. Any online registrations during this process could risk your patient data being lost. If you have already submitted registration forms to Ariel via our online portal, we will be contacting you individually.

Please continue to contact Springmead in order to access your care.

We are supporting the Springmead team to ensure there is sufficient clinical capacity to continue to care for you until the closure.

Please be kind.

The teams at both practices are working extremely hard to provide you with the best possible care. We are anticipating the next few months to be incredibly busy and ask that you are patient as we navigate our way through a difficult situation and process.

Please access our services appropriately.

We are seeing an increase of minor illnesses presenting for urgent on the day appointments. This is taking critical appointments away from those who may need them. Pharmacies, NHS online, NHS 111 and the Handi app are all able to offer support and advice prior to you contacting the practice.

What are we doing to help?

Our phone lines

We have listened to our patients regarding the difficulties accessing our phone lines.As a result, we are installing a new phone system in our St Mary’s site and we will be able to release details of this change shortly.

We are recruiting!

Do you think you have what it takes to work with us? We are looking to develop our current, amazing team as well as recruiting both clinical and non-clinical staff to help support the transition and on-going care of all patients. Visit the NHS jobs website for more information -

We are creating more space…

We are looking at ways to increase both clinical and non-clinical spaces across our Fore Street and St Mary’s sites. This will provide better working environment for our team and more capacity to help look after our patients.Keep an eye on our Facebook page and Website for further updates -
